The busy executive….

"Up until 18 months ago I was not exercising anywhere near the level I wanted to due to time pressure at work and lifestyle demands outside work. Going to the gym had also become a chore and unenjoyable. However, since then I have been training regularly with Extrafit and I have a focused programme to help me achieve my objectives. I find Extrafit professional, friendly and knowledgeable and I thoroughly enjoy my training.”

The elite sportsman….

"These days, the physical and mental demands of participating in motorsports are enormous, and as a racing driver, my fitness and diet are also under constant scrutiny. Extrafit coaching has helped, and continues to help me, to reach a high level of fitness, strength and stamina. Another benefit is in improving my ability to concentrate and focus – when you are trying to shave a couple of hundredths of a second off your lap times in testing, it’s absolutely vital that you are on top form all day long. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be competing successfully at this level of the sport without regular Extrafit training sessions and dietary advice."

Matt Harris, Racing Driver,

The 26.2mile marathon goal….

“To achieve my life-long goal of running the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon I realised I was going to need expert advice. I contacted Extrafit and arranged an initial consultation with Tim Quickenden. With Tim’s professional advice I set up weekly training sessions. His specialist guidance helped me improve my general level of fitness and build up my strength and stamina for long distance running. I worked with him to reach my potential for completing the marathon distance, without injury. Extrafit helped me plan a sensible and realistic training programme to suit my commitments and time available. Tim’s motivation helped me enormously, especially on those cold winters evenings after a day’s work when the last thing I felt like doing was an interval training session. Tim’s knowledge of sports science and his nutritional advice I also found to be invaluable. Tim’s encouragement and interest in training on a one-to-one basis definitely helped me to achieve my personal goal – and I have the medals to prove it. Six years later, I am still training with Tim on a regular basis.”

Heather S, Fareham

The working mother of young children….

" As a mother with 2 young children, and working nearly full time - by working with Tim I get a structured fitness program which otherwise would probably fall by the wayside!! I try and enter races from 5Ks up to marathons - and the extra motivation provided by a personal trainer gives me focus, as well as adding a lot of enjoyment to the training. This - coupled with the extra exercise of boxing and weights - gives me some 'quality time for me' and is also a lot of fun. I enjoy training with someone who is encouraging and caring, and also very knowledgeable. It is never boring, is an outlet from all the other pressures of work and family, and gives me a lot of pleasure."

The “exercise-phobic” recovering from illness....

“Two years ago, having recently recovered from serious illness, I thought that I should address the fact that although I was an active person and spent many hours in the garden, I did no REAL exercise. I felt that I had been lucky and I wanted to minimise the possibility of suffering different health problems such as cardiovascular disease or osteoporosis in the future. I am a completely unsporty person, unable to even wield a tennis racquet, and I thought proper exercise was for other people. I didn’t think that I would have the self-discipline to go regularly to a gym, wouldn’t know what to wear, what to do and hated the idea of communal changing rooms and showers. My daughter already had a personal trainer so I decided to explore this possibility. Tim came to see me and took a very thorough health history and within a few days (before I could wonder what I’d done) I was starting my first session. To begin with we did a brisk walk for half the session followed by toning and stretching exercises. Eventually, Tim introduced running for about 1-2 minutes in between the walking then progressed on to running for 2-3 minutes with shorter walks in between each run. After 9 months I ran non-stop and began to increase both pace and distance. Sessions now typically incorporate a non-stop run of 3-5 miles followed by varied exercises. Due to correct stretching exercises at the end of each session, I have never felt even a tiny bit stiff. It was (and still is) very motivating to take the heart rate monitor off at the end of a workout to find out how hard my heart has been working and how many calories I’ve burn’t. I think I must have been quite a challenge for Tim but he has been extremely encouraging and motivating, never pushing me beyond what I was capable of, but at the same time making sure that I work to my maximum. I now “think fit”, really enjoy my twice weekly training sessions and have completely surprised myself that even I can do it.”
